Soups On! ….Happy New Year

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Before you read…there are different type styles and sizes on this post…my blogger is not happy today – it’s putting in any style it wants to no matter what I do – sorry!!!!

We’re anxiously waiting for our New Year’s Eve dinner – we never eat this big any other night of the year but Doug has his tradition of Steak and Seafood. It’s the only time we indulge in this much food at one time.
Our menu tonight will be:
T-Bone steak
Tbone steak
Crab Legs/Claws
Crab legs 1
Steamed Mussels
Mussels
Deep Fried Shrimp
Deep fried Shrimp
Baked Potato
Baked potato
Steamed Corn
Sweet Corn
Texas Toast
Texas toast 1
And if there’s room later on there’s Cheesecake – I bought the mini-squares of 2 different kinds but I think they will stay in the refrigerator until tomorrow (which by the way will be Scalloped Potatoes and Ham).  I do have a good supply of antacids in the cupboard!
Okay you say…where do we put it all…well, we split the steak – I take the tenderloin part, he takes the other side. Both our preference for this cut of meat.
I will eat some of the deep fried Shrimp, potato and vegetable and bread.  THE REST IS HIS…I don’t care for other seafood than the Shrimp. So I don’t think I will be groaning and moaning tonight!

What a year this has been…many ups and downs.
We have many joys in this past year but there have been a few sad moments as well – we lost 3 family members and 4 friends. This is not a normal year and I pray 2012 brings happier days to all these families.
We have been blessed beyond words with a wonderful family…they are such loving, thoughtful boys and their families are our joy!
And we are also going to be grandparents again for the 6th time….life is good.

Our travels have been almost zero – mainly due to my discs – they have not been cooperating with me the past two years and even more this past year so there are no memories to reflect back on for travels – although we did get to see Doug’s cousins in Arkansas in July for a cousins reunion. I guess I can call that traveling – but you all know what I’m talking about – Pennsylvania is in my blood and it has been over a year!  But we will get there sooner or later. And no Simple Goods show this year! Oh well….at least we are here and basically in good health – I really don’t classify my discs as poor health because it sure doesn’t stop me from most things.
I’m glad though that this year is coming to an end because I’m anxious to see what 2012 has in store – I have plans and dreams and we’ll see if they will happen – the list is long. I never make resolutions though because we all know they never work…I do try to be a good person, thinking about what I say and do before I do it – and wishing I could be like that ALL YEAR LONG! It’s the best I can do to try my best.
Things I want to accomplish this year:
1. Re-paper or paint the bedroom walls – and trim
2. Paint bathroom cabinets and new floor
3. Crown Molding in dining room
4. Paint family room
Now as I read this I have to laugh…THESE AREN’T THINGS I WANT TO ACCOMPLISH…they’re things I want Doug to do…goodness, hope he doesn’t see this – I need to spring it all on him slowly.

May you all have a safe and wonderful New Year’s Eve celebration and New Year’s Day…and a wonderful New Year.
Blessings
Karen

  6. We too lost friends and friends lost family members and it seemed to be a banner year for that. In one of her clear moments, my mom told me to get used to it because I wasn't getting any younger!! Maybe she was right ~ it is our stage in life!

I pray that in 2012 your back doesn't keep you as close to home ~ I know you miss your traveling. These kinds of trials really help us see what is important in life.

You have a pretty ambitious list there for Doug. any of those will just make your gorgeous home even more welcoming ~ it that is possible.

Enjoy that tenderloin ~ you picked the best part!! Happy New Year to you and your beautiful family! hugs!!

  17. We celebrate the last meal of the year with our dear friends. It's always lobster, steak, salad, twice baked potatoes, and cheese cake for dessert.
(We had it a day early last night)
    It's such a nice tradition.
    Happy new Year!

  23. Karen,
We have also seen sadness in 2011 with friends that lost their son to brain cancer and another where their 2 month old grandson suddenly past away and my husband's best friend from high school passed away from colon cancer. I hope there is less sorrow in 2012 for everyone.
Hope you get your(Doug's) to do list all done this coming year.
    Happy New Year!!
    hugs,
    Cindy

  24. Oh my, get me some antacids right now... my tummy is already hurting with all that deliciousness, lol!

You have had quite a year! Sorry you haven't been able to travel but yes, you're still able to get around so that is a very good thing!

I'm not a resolutions maker either. I can't keep them and I hated the failure feeling I used to feel for not being able to keep them. Now I set goals and just do my best to keep them. Much less stressful and I don't beat myself up over it.

Lol, I had to laugh... yes, I would spring it on Doug slowly. I have a list along those lines in my mind too. One thing at a time.

Wishing you, Doug, and the family a wonderful new year!

  26. Hi Karen, Let's hope our Misters don't all get together and decide to go on strike in the year 2012. Seems that all my plans for the new year have Mr. P working to get them accomplished also. A new baby in the family in the coming year is such a blessing. Something to look forward to. Congrats. again. Hoping we get to travel more the coming year also. I was staying close to home as Mother was so sick. The new year will begin with me giving thanks to God that she is no longer suffering, but with an emptiness that only time can heal. But I am thankful for a blessed year. Wishing you and your family and great healthy, happy, and prosperous New Year.

A BIG New Years hug to spread a little Love and Happiness. That's alot of yummy food, excellent for a celebration. I agree, 2011 was a dramatic and devastating year for most. Hopefully 2012 will allow folks to make a big comeback.
Have a Happy and Healthy New Year!

    Hugs~Carol

  29. Karen~ What a wonderful post. That's what life is all about. Sharing our lives with others. Your "dinner" looks yummy, and so fun to share. Good luck with the new projects for the year, if you are anything like hubby and I, you will work wonderfully together to accomplish your goals. New Year Blessings to you and your family ~Sara

  30. Running woefully behind here in the blogging world. Sigh. Your New Year's Eve celebration sounds much like ours. After years of working on New Year's Eve (when I was a student and bartending and cocktailing for school funds and spending the night waiting on folks), and then a few years of trying to find a decent place to eat out on New Year's Eve, we settled on the tradition where my husband makes our once a year very special meal....Crab legs, lobster and prime rib. I watch the Twilight Zone marathon and Hubby's usually in bed by 8 and all is well.... ;o) My only resolution is to make no resolutions....but I did choose a "word" for the year, and that word is "balance." Oh, so needing to achieve it. When Doug is done with your list, wanna send him my way? We have a bath to redo and I need new counters and sink and wall coverings in the kitchen..... ;o) Wishing you a wonderful new year filled with joy, promise, health, healing, and blessings.....Among my blessings of 2011, I count finding you....Smiles & Hugs ~ Robin
