This has been the busiest week

And I mean busy – it hasn’t let up…well I think Thursday there isn’t anything going on so I’ll make something happen! LOL
I may go to my nieces place and see what they have cooked up for the upcoming wedding of Krista my great-niece.
She is getting married August 17th so it’s coming up fast.
It’s going to be a fun and cute wedding.  She’s a farm girl all the way and that’s a good thing!!!
Camo/burlap/jugs/bottles and Yellow flowers.
I’m even going to get some big Sunflowers from Dan Dipaol’s farm next week to take to her for it.

My niece and the girls came over last week and took home all the 1800’s antique jugs and bottles we had plus 2 twig wreaths - you name it she got it – oh ya, quilts also left here!
Tina is creative so she will make this work.
Oh…there will be old quilts on all the tables too!

So I fixed a light late afternoon meal of Mediterranean BLT’s and Spinach/Strawberry salad. (recipe to be put on recipe tab later).
And for dessert I had made skewers of Strawberries and mini Cream Puffs – they were a hit.
Then they all left (after fixing a flat tire on the van) for the Brewers game in Milwaukee.

I didn’t take a picture of the sandwiches after they were under the broiler…sorry!

This past weekend we headed up north to Doug’s cousins for the annual cousins reunion – the weather did not play nice with us though….it reached a high of 42 for all 3 days and RAINED.  They actually had the furnace running for 3 days it was so cold.  But a great time was had.
cousins group

And….Ruth Ann (in green top on right) is in a Ukulele band so she had some of the members come over on Sat. afternoon and perform for us.
They call themselves ‘The Ukuladies and Lads’ as there are 2 gentlemen in the band as well.  There were 10 there which was about half of the group.
It may sound ‘hokey’ to you being a Ukulele band, but THEY WERE FANTASTIC!
They perform at events around Hayward…for Food!!!!  lol (really, that’s all they request)

On the way up north we stopped at two great places.
One was in Rice Lake and lots of you know Cathy from http://orangesink.blogspot.com/
Oh my – it was a dream to step into her studio…I know you won’t like this but the photos will come at another post…this one would get too long.
But a wonderful time was had and she gave me a parting gift – sooooo sweet!
A darling sheep hooked rug kit – yummy!
Thanks so much Cathy for the great afternoon….so fun to meet you.

And then when we left there we headed about 30 miles north to Vicki’s shop ‘Simply’
And again…disappointing you I know – pictures later!
But I did enjoy the time there too.
Karen and Vicki
Couldn’t leave there without purchasing treasures though (later folks…lol)

This is as much as I’m going to tease you with today because I have so much to put on here.

Are you still with me!!!

Are you all keeping cool?
Summer had a hard time arriving but when it did it gave us what we asked for didn’t it?
But oh we needed rain badly and it came yesterday.
I am not a fan of summer so this heat is a killer for me – even too hot to enjoy the screen room.

Remember you can click pictures to enlarge them…

Birthday Time
My Cake

I didn’t mention it but I had a birthday on the 10th and my husband surprised me with a cake after our dinner.
He put it in the beverage ref. in the screen room so I didn’t know he had it….oh and it tasted great too – I haven’t been eating too many sweets lately!
He did a little ‘overkill’ on the size of the numbers though, don’t you think! lol

Another Great Book
Adoring Addie

Tanya from Friendship Crossing sent me an Amish book – she had to do a book review on it and then she was sweet enough to pass it along to me..thank you Tanya!
The book is by Leslie Gould – one of my favorite Amish authors.
It’s book #2 Adoring Addie from the series “The Courtships of Lancaster County”
I would like to purchase  Book #1 Courting Cate and #3 Minding Molly before starting this…I like to read them in order.

Friends
us with mare and jim 1

Last week we met friends from AZ for our yearly lunch while they were passing through on their way to their son’s place in Wisconsin Rapids. Always so fun to see how much talking Mare and I can get in during that lunch.
One of these winters we will go west to Mesa to visit them…when my back/hip gets under control it WILL happen.
I have 3 cousins (all siblings) living in AZ during the winter as well so we could visit them at the same time.

Great Talent
flower

dog

Are these cute or what…our daughter in law Jamie made these for a silent auction for where she works – it’s a company that makes springs for medical equipment so they gave her all the springs she needed to create these.
They were auctioned off for ‘Make A Wish’ fund raiser at her work place – they are larger than they look…the flower she said is about 3 ft. tall and the dog about as long.

jamies bird
This piece is huge…over 4 ft tall – she said it’s close to 5 ft.
This was saved for the grand auction.
Is my gal talented or what???  Yep!

New Basket
Basket from Ann

I purchased this fantastic long basket from Ann
http://aholeinthebasketprimitives.blogspot.com/
and it came on Friday.
I’m hoping to get some more green large Mason jars (like shown below) to put in it with some fresh flowers in the jars.

New Treasures
Green jars
We went to a flea market on Saturday and found a few nice items.

3 Green jars – the 2 taller ones have bubbles in the glass and the smaller clear jar.
Got all these for $1 each.

 2 patterns

Found a vendor who was selling all her patterns $1 each – the Penny Rug one was partially worked on so I’m going to take out the stitching and re-do it.  I just liked the design on the pillow one and hopefully I can incorporate the design into a Penny Rug.  I also got a Santa one – the wool kit part was all there but the pattern and instructions were not!  I guess I can figure something out but for $1 it was just fine.

 FH Weavers piece

I found this Family Heirloom Weavers 47” x 82” throw in the ‘Log Cabin’ design in Red and Blue at the flea market today…wholesale price was still on it and she said that’s what she was selling it for…$23 – great deal. She had 2 other styles but they were in Green and I just don’t have green in the house.

Out and About and Other Stuff
Next weekend it’s up north for a family reunion (and to pick up the 2 Windsor chairs we had made) and the week after that on August 3rd we are taking Emily and Joe (our two teen grandchildren) to Pennsylvania.  Not only will it be a FUN trip but we are going to throw in some history too.
~ Gettysburg, Annapolis, Baltimore and New York City ~
We are hoping to get it all in plus some Lancaster time.   Think it’s do-able???
Oh and the last day we are there we are going to the Lititz craft show…you don’t want to miss this one – it’s huge and our friend ‘Teresa’ from
http://teresasprimtreasures.blogspot.com/ will have her booth there…it’s on Broad St. (Rt. 501) and she’s right on the corner in front of the Bank…go visit her!
I have an itinerary for the week so I will make it work!

I have to wonder about Blogger…there was lots of hype about the Reading List going away – but it’s still there…What’s up with this.  I’m so totally confused.
There are so many ways to follow people now that the lists are many – what do to…what to do!!!
(just a quick rant…I’m okay now…lol)

Before I forget!
We are going to this show! – are you?
Dawn at
http://hollyhillsprimitives.blogspot.com/ is having her first ever Primitive/Antique Show at her new location…she’s in an old mill, many wonderful vendors from around the country will be showing and selling their beautiful wares.

Harvest At The Mill Show
Saturday, September 7th

After the show there’s a gathering at Bittersweet Cafe for all those Blogger and FB friends who attend and want to get together and meet!!!  How sweet is that.
Check out her blog with all the information – we are going.

And I know Ann from Ohio Farm Baskets is going to be a vendor among many of our friends.
Hope you all can make it!!!
Please check out Dawns Blog for further information

Found a couple baskets

Morning dear friends…well it is Monday again.
Where did the weekend go – it was a long one wasn’t it, with the 4th thrown in there.
We went to Milton (Doug’s home town) for the parade and then visited my sister.
We also went back to visit her again on Saturday and stopped at a local shop that sells retail plus some antiques.
We found this sweet basket for $4.50.

Now I’m not sure the age of it but I loved the details and the handle.
Got this great large picnic basket – looks like something spilled on the inside long ago and it stained all the way through to the caning.  But that’s fine  - I don’t mind it.  I’m going to clean it up really good and put it in the screen room by the sofa for necessary things  like the fan control and books…you know all the stuff you use but don’t want it laying around on the tables.  I will keep a roll of paper towels in there too for spills.

Small basket

Lookie here….the old logo even is in tact and it’s a Burlington, Iowa product (same name as my town!) Now a girl just had to have that, right!  And they call it a hamper – forgot that they were called that way back in the day.

We’re going to Janesville today to meet friends from Arizona who are passing through to their son’s house in Wisconsin Rapids.  We meet them once a year at the same restaurant for lunch.  We get our 2 hour visit in and boy do we chat!  Thank goodness Doug and Jim enjoy each others company because we don’t even know they are there! (smiles….)

Then have to take my IPad back to Best Buy and see why it doesn’t recognize my camera card reader.  Verizon tried to fix it but said it’s in the IPad, not the connectors.  Darn, always something that isn’t an easy fix.

Then we will visit my sister again.

Please say some prayers for our little Zayne.
They took him to the emergency room yesterday because he had stopped breathing several times and his little face was very red.  They think it may be in his esophagus and had them take him immediately to Children’s Hospital in Milwaukee.
He’s so tiny! Today they will do tests on him. Please pray that it is nothing serious. He was 3 weeks old yesterday.

Hopefully this week yet we can drive up to Wisconsin Rapids where Country Freckles is located…she is going to take some of my products on consignment so I have been sewing like crazy.  I would like to go on Thursday because she has her hooking girls there then – I always love seeing what they have created.
My hooking is still with Margie (Hungry Hook Primitives) because she is matching some wool for the background of my piece I’m working on…so when she’s done dying the wool she will send it back and then I’ll have something to work on again….and use my wonderful swivel/rotating frame  -Yeahhhh. Oh and just maybe we will get to see our friends again – remember that’s where they were headed.

Oh my goodness I almost forgot…I won a giveaway over at http://thewoolcupboard.blogspot.com/
Linda was doing something different – the first ones to leave a comment won the item of their choice.  She was offering 3.  I was blessed with winning my choice – a pretty large stitchery.
It says to do it on aged Muslin but I’m going to work it on aged Osnaburg.
Thank  you Linda!

Where does it all come from anyway???

Flags for header
How I get so much to post about baffles me…where does it all come from anyway.
I try and keep my posts short so not to bore you and loose you half way through but if you knew me personally you would know right away that it’s an impossible thing to expect…I’m a chatter box when I have something to say – so if you guys are all still here after 4 years of my ramblings then I guess you all know me quite well!  Thanks for hanging in there with me.
Fun day yesterday at the Elkhorn flea market…always find something I have to have there – guess it’s one of the rules of going to a flea market…’Don’t come home empty handed’ – and I don’t!!!
Very large basket…$5
I’m going to re-arrange the baskets hanging from the beams in the family room to make room for this one.
Basket 1
Very large Green Crock Bowl – can’t seem to get the color right but it’s like the Jadite ware $10New green bowl 1
And a pair of child’s Cobbler forms $2

And last…2 Army blankets for more Penny Rugs
$10 and $15
These are becoming very hard to find – especially the made in USA ones.

I will continue with this post – no sense disappointing you all now! lol
I have been on the search for some wool on Craig's list and Saturday I typed in ‘wool’ and this is the first thing that came up....a hooking frame and other things with it.
I e-mailed the seller and luck had it that she lived 1/4 mile from the flea market we were going to yesterday...you could see the fairgrounds from her place (she lived in the country).
Anyway...she was asking $50 for the whole lot.
Well - I got lucky here as I was looking for a frame that tilted and swiveled – and it did! (mine is like it but is stationary).
In the box was this:
*FRAME
*PATTERNS and KITS
*EXTRA WOOL STRIPS
*HOOK
*INSTRUCTION BOOK
*SOME SMALL WOOL PIECES
Guess it was my lucky day!
I may pull the wool already hooked on the ones, and do my own version.

Saturday we went to Delafield to NOOKS & CRANNYS shop
Denise who owns the shop has some of my products and I was picking them up because it’s what was left from consigning and after awhile you need to freshen the stock.
Denise as her usual ‘generous’ self gifted me with some more wool…I bought the 2 black pieces and the one grayish one on the left..she gave me the other 3 pieces plus some cute felt Tulips she made.
I know you would love her shop so if you live near by or want a days outing head on over to Delafield, WI – lots to see and do there.
After I get more information from Denise I will add her to my list of Wisconsin shops on the tabs.

Remember the sand pail??? Well it finally got a plant in it – some vines and not sure what the purplish one is – just liked it.

I didn’t post pictures of the Aidan and Miranda’s birthday from last Saturday because I had way too much going on in my last post as it was.
Aidan turned 5 on June 20th and Miranda turns 1 on July 3rd…so they had these 2 special birthdays together.  Kids got so many gifts it was incredible…and guess what, Aidan got to open all of them (Miranda’s too) because she just didn’t want to sit still long enough.

And I will leave you with this baby Wren…on Monday we saw him jumping around in the grass then trying with all is might to climb the tree – never did make it.
When I went over near it to take the picture he scurried into the base of the tree where there was a little hole he could go into.
