Oh you must see what I won from Evelyn from
Lee Hill Primitives
Give A-Way!
I am am so excited and now I’m anxious to receive it.

THANK YOU EVELYN…I’ll post pictures when
they arrive and get settled in their new home.
I was looking for Bittersweet this weekend and only found this one little vine….and the berries
were such a deep, deep orange red.
There were no splits in the berries, no shell popped open.
Questions: When they are ready to pick?
What should they look like?
All the one’s I see on the blogs,
there are the 4 little pod leaves behind the berry.
Here are a couple pictures of what I found….
Very measley. Just a couple branches off one vine.
And today when i went out to take a picture
THEY WERE OPENING UP!!!!!
See, not much there on each stem!
And this is the vine they came from.
How many of you out there have this wonderful book?
I am so wanting one – they are quite expensive but
I’ve seen it in a store we go to in Lancaster, PA
and I think when we go again in October
I will pick one up for myself this time.
I forgot to add a couple pictures the other day of our trip up north over the weekend – it’s my favorite place to go when we are up there – it’s the Crafter’s Mall at the Dells – Oh so many goodies all under one roof. I loose myself in there, thank goodness there’s always someone with me…lol
Doug and my brother usually head out for the third
building – the Antiques, while Gail and I are in the Crafts. Oh, I didn’t notice till now…that’s my brother by his truck!
That’s it for today – enjoy!

Hi Karen! Congratulations on your exciting win....some neat stuff! I got my bittersweet about 2-3 weeks ago, and I cut mine off the vine when the berries are nice, green and plump. Mine open up almost immediately after being indoors for only a few hours, and when mine opens up the outside splits into 3 petal pieces.
ReplyDeleteGood morning Karen, I cut my bittersweet about a week ago for the shop and it has opened nicely. The berries were also green when I cut it. Hope you have a wonderful fall weekend! Dawn
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the win!!
ReplyDeleteThere is a bittersweet tutorial on my blog on the side ba with pictures. What you described doesn't sound like bittersweet UNLESS it is already opened and all the pods are gone but usually there are some remnants left behind.
Hi Karen,
ReplyDeleteI would love to visit those places!
You sure did get a wonderful group of goodies from Evelyn.
I sent you an email about Bittersweet.
Linda

Karen,
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your win!! I sure wish that I could find some bittersweet growing around here, but I usually have to purchase some when I'm at one of my fall shows.
The craft and antique malls looks like a wonderful place to shop.
~Cindy~
Karen, you won't find much bittersweet in WI because it's an invasive species. In fact, it's on the United States Department of Agriculture list of invasive species. I located on the City of Chicago - Department of the Environment web site this info: "The Chicago Department of Environment will now prosecute sellers and hobbyists alike who import, sell or possess oriental bittersweet, Japanese hops and princess trees, among others." I know I Dad always said it was illegal in WI so I thought I'd do a little research.
ReplyDeleteHope all is well with you and Doug!

Congrats on the win Karen. What wonderful stuff will look great in your lovely home. Cindy
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on winning the giveaway! Very nice goodies!
ReplyDeleteWow...you found some bittersweet! It's very hard to find around here, and my plant didn't produce anything this year...really bummed about that!
Love your porch snowman in your other post too.
Have a great weekend!
