Girls Lunch

I used to work with a group of the greatest girls/ladies ever!
When I retired in 2000 some of them were still working…
well all of them actually but we still kept in touch
and not long after we started having a lunch get together at a restaurant every 6-8 weeks or so just to keep in touch
and it has been wonderful and going strong since.

Working with each other like we did for more than 25 years you become like family and there’s so much to talk about – grandchildren graduating from high school, first grandbabies, trips and just plain ‘getting old’ talk!

So today the lunch was at my house.
And it was Pot Luck….I made a Chicken Salad and the beverages and they brought the rest…lots of great food!

Here are a few photos of the table and then what I could get
of the girls – we were all so busy chatting and then eating
I totally forgot to take more pictures.
I figured as long as Monday was Flag Day and the 4th
is fast approaching I’d go with the Red, White and Blue theme and girl’s…I USED ALL PLASTIC!
That probably isn’t proper for a sit down dinner
but…hey, it was fun!

My kitty, Baby, decided to lounge under the table in
the family room….guess she wanted to stay out of their way

And Lola laid on our bed in the only spot of sun she could find.

And it was a hot humid day too – got up to 81
so we never came out into the screen room to visit,
but stayed in the house which was fine with me.

Oh, guess what happened about an hour and a half before
they were to arrive….the power went out!!!!

I was preparing some food when there was a huge bang and it even rattled the house and Baby jumped and ran, and Doug was mowing and he even heard it over the mower – so we went and looked around but didn’t see anything,
then came in the house and realized the power was out - Yep, right in the middle of things I had to change course
and rethink what I needed to do.

So Doug called WE Energy and they came out and it was one of our tree limbs that caused it – it was laying on a wire and burned … you could see it smoldering!!
So we put 36 homes out of commission for about an hour.
Got our tree trimmed for FREE though!!!

When we were outside some little girl’s walked by from being down at the public pool (that unfortunately had to be closed down as well because of the outage) and said they
thought there were fireworks going off because they
could see the sparks above the trees.

A customer ordered one of my
Flag pocket Red Ticking Towels
and sent me a picture of where she put it in her home…
doesn’t it look great in her setting?

Thanks so much Sue for sharing the picture with us.
Oh I just noticed the zinc/tin insert in the dry sink….cool!

For Sunday, we’re invited to our son Darren’s house for Father’s Day and Aidan’s 2nd birthday – I’ll be going alone because Doug has to leave tomorrow on a trip to
California so I get to enjoy the day for him with the kids.

So what are you all doing for Father’s Day?

Have a great rest of the week – Karen

P.S. I need some Needlepunch kits!!

Anyone got any suggestions where I can get any
….I want ones that are complete with DMC
and if not…then just any kind of Needlepunch
I’ve done a search and found some sites
but thought I’d ask if you have any suggestions.

It’s a Gripper Frame and I saw them on e-bay but they’re very
expensive…I want one cheaper

Relaxing the day away

It was such a great day today….reached 82 but the breeze kept it nice and comfortable.

So I grunged some gold wool felt for my Penny Rugs so I can continue to make my Daisy and Bee Skeep Rugs which I finished another one today – it’s a 10 x 24 runner with the same design as last weeks round one.

So there you have my ‘other latest’ Penny Rug

What can I say…..I’m spoiled!
Yep….who wouldn’t be with this to lounge in – finally got the camera out to take pictures of the ‘clean’ screen room….it normally last for about a week and then the webbies start showing behind the furniture like sparkling little jewels in the sunlight….too bad I can’t cash them in – I’d make a fortune!

Here’s a little a little visit to my ‘clean’ screen room…..
Oh…the ugly cushion in the chair…that is there for Lola to sit on….that way I can just pick it up and put it away when company comes and not have to use the lint roller for her fuzzies

TIN CANDLE MOLDS

I though when we left home yesterday morning for the flea market that it would be like every other time – lots of nothing …. well, I wasn’t disappointed on that thought because there was 99% junk, but I did find a couple items that I just couldn’t pass up and neither would you of that I’m sure.

The very first space we went to had this adorable
Tin Chick Candy Mold
and I’m really not sure if it’s old or not because there
are no markings on it but I’ve seen reproductions and
the rings that hold them together aren’t as old looking
as these are so I’m going to say ‘it’s kind of old’
I paid $2.00 for it and even if it’s new
it’s still a bargain at that price
Chick Candy Mold

Then if that wasn’t enough the booth a few spaces down had these awesome
Tin Candle Molds
I got both for $10.00.
Now I know that was a bargain because I purchased one 20 years ago like the 4 candle one and I paid $18.00 then….
Irvin’s Country Tinware is selling the 6 candle mold for $43.50 and the 4 candle is selling for $32.50
So Yippppeeee I got a good deal there!
And it just so happens I collect Tin Candle Holders & Molds
Candle Molds
What do you think???? Good deal???? Yep, I thought so! lol

Then on the way out there was some wonderful looking fresh produce (shipped in of course but still great)
We bought 2 lemons (huge) for .40 each
and 2 Cucumbers for $1.00

And….for $1.00 we got these 4 plastic basket (really good size too) and a Thermal Caraf for my aunt (she’s been wanting another one – hope she doesn’t mind a used one because there just aren’t any out there to be had these days).
I like using things like these baskets for snack when we have guests….baskets are wonderful and I use them too, but I like that these can be washed as well.
Caraf and Baskets
So it was a good 1-1/2 hours well spent and the temps were perfect (except for the wind – whew it blew and blew things over)

Then we stopped at Northwind Perennial Farm again…this time the resident kitties were there….omgosh they are adorable so I just had to share with you – I couldn’t stop looking at them….Enjoy!

Today my husband thoroughly cleaned our screen room and
we are now officially ready for Spring/Summer…..
and boy does that room get nasty over the winter.

Lots of webbies and crawlies tucked in the corners.
But now it shines and smells so good and the sun is out and he’s out like a light on the sofa taking in the breezes coming in

And such a good guy he is - he washes the floor on his hands and knees…no mop – it leaves streaks on the porcelain tiles so hands and knees is the only way. And the screens get washed inside and out along with everything else.

Guess he deserves the snooze.
While he was doing that I did the house – washed floors, windows and all the other things that go along with cleaning

I’m sitting out here too, enjoying listening to the sounds of Spring….tons of birds, lawn mowers, airplanes (we live by our little airport) and kids….oh it’s wonderful!

I want to thank all my new followers
and my regulars…it just keeps growing….without all of you
I would stop this blog today but you keep me going so Thank You so much…you make is to worth it with your nice, fun and cheerful comments.

A Quick Hello

Hi everyone!

I don’t have much going on right now – been kind of a quiet week here….the temps have cooled down (ya, just when the central air got fixed yesterday…it was 62 here! lol) and it’s raining and 60 today.  Isn’t that the way it works? Murphy’s Law I guess!

Stitched up something new yesterday too….
Daisy’s and Beeskeep Mat

Yesterday was a great day for bird watching…OMGosh I sound like I’m 80 years old! But just outside our screen room in our Service Berry bush
(here it is below - remember I posted it several weeks back)
Service Berry 1
and the Cedar Waxwings just love the berries – the first year we had the bush the berries got huge – plump and red…then the Cedar Waxwings came and stripped it clean…..didn’t see them for a couple years. Now this year they’re here again in hoards, but they aren’t giving the berries time to ripen…they’re eating them green…hope they don’t get belly aches!
Aren’t they a pretty bird?

We also have a little family of Wrens in the bush as well – they come every Spring and have their babies…which are in there chirping now….we can see them so clearly just sitting in our screen room – and it’s soooo cute when the babies come out for the first time.

Take a little tour with me….

We have this fabulous Perennial Farm near us called Northwind Perrenial Farm that we like to go visit not only to get our flowers but just as a little treat…the grounds are just beautiful. I tried to get the pictures off the disc I loaded them onto but only a few would transfer before it kept saying ‘not responding’….oh that frustrates me….so after trying to get pictures for the umpteenth time I gave up so what’s here is what you get….enjoy!
