I'M SEEING RED!!!

Oh it's so hot - and I know it's hot for many of you out there.
It makes me think of FIRE and that makes me think RED!
Thank goodness for air conditioning.
So just enjoy the pictures....

But before that I want to share a couple pictures from last week when we went to the Kenosh, WI Kingfish game.  There is fun action all the time as well as the ball players ( Collegiate players hoping for  the big time!).  They play their hearts out and in between innings they have several races and contests.

There's the Dancing Elvi's, Toilet Seat Races, Human Bowling and more. There's even a bounce house, sandbox and bobble-head ring toss.
Such a wonderful fun family event that we got to enjoy with our sons family.
I had a hard time getting clear pictures with the phone

Even though it was soooo hot I made a delicious Blueberry Lemon Yogurt Cake....it is so moist and you put a glaze to finish it off.
We bought 5 lbs of Michigan Blueberries from Gooseberries Market here in Burlington - they get just so many of these wonderful huge fresh blueberries in and sell them in 5 lb. boxes for $12.00.
I made a double recipe so I could freeze one to give to my step father.
I'll try and get the recipe on my 'favorite recipes' page later.
(Forgot to take a picture of it baked...)

the berries are huge and so sweet!

A couple weeks ago friends of ours from AZ were passing through Janesville so we drove there and had breakfast with them at Cracker Barrel - always love seeing Marilyn and Jim even though it's only once a year. We still chat as if it was just a few days between visit.  Love that girl.  Known her since 9th grade.

I was treated to a wonderful belated birthday lunch from my husband - we went to the Grand Geneva Resort in Lake Geneva, WI.  Sat over looking the pool area and had a very leisurely lunch....but so sad, they were totally out of iced tea!  It's summer for heaven sake.
And the reason it was belated is because on my birthday
I had my sister's Celebration of Life.
I was told several times how sad to spend my birthday
at such a sad event...I said it wasn't sad because we
always spent our birthday's together so it was an honor for me
to say 'goodbye' to her on my birthday...perfect day!
Loved you tons Shirley and you are missed tons.

  1. Hi Karen! I am so sorry to hear about your sister, but how sweet of you to find the good in sharing your birthday with her celebration. Such a blessing to be able to look at things that way. I am sure you are getting the same glorious soaking rains that we are just up the road. We lost a small maple tree to the wind, but I am looking forward to not having crunchy grass in the morning. Love all your reds! Jane

  2. Just stopped to say hello to you, Karen. I have thought of you so many times. How is your back? I have said quite a few prayers for you but have not kept up as to how you are doing. I have been away for some time because of my back and fibromyalgia. I'm okay. Could be so much worse. I guess. Will get back into the blogs soon. I miss you and all the fun things you do!
    Love, Susannah

  3. i also hate heat......and here near Buffalo ny we are in a servere drought. All our lawns are brown and leaves are falling off trees. Today it's going to be 91 and the same for the next 10 days. One good thing is the humidity is only 35%. I'm glad we have central air conditioning and my yard needs attention but even in the early morning it's too hot to go outside. We haven't mowed in 3 weeks but the only thing that grew are a few weeds, the grass looks dry and dead. So sorry about your loss......hugs and prayers to you and your family.

  4. HI Karen- So Sorry to hear about your Sister! My thoughts and Prayers are with you!
It has been soooo Hot here also. Our air conditioner broke down in the middle of the night
During the hot spell and it was on a Friday. I found someone to come out and fix it the next morning
But it was double the cost, because it was the weekend. Thankfully, it wasn't anything too serious.
Beautiful photos you took around your home. Love seeing all your treasures.
Have a wonderful week! Stay Cool!

  5. Hi Karen,
I Love, love, love the red. Thank you so much for sharing. In my old house I decorated with a lot of red and hope to do so here. If the developers would kindly go on their way I could move forward with my plans. I hate being on hold but it just brightened my day to see your post with all of those beautiful primitive reds. Take care and stay cool.
