FRIENDSHIP!

Helen Keller wrote:
Walking with a friend in the dark is better than walking alone in the light.

How very true is this....friendship is so valuable and I enjoy the friendship we have here in blogland...
I don't post as often as I would like and I don't get to visit your blogs like I want to but know
that I think of all of you often - I miss the chats back and forth.

I would love to designate one hour a week to doing a post if I can get my work schedule like I want it.

I have been working every day from about 8 am to 5 pm on products for our October show. One would think making things every day one would be caught up...nope....some items take a process. It isn't just stitching something and calling it done. Many of my products have stages.

Last month (wow...it has been OVER a month now) since my last post I've made several
other products for the show besides the Gingerbreads and Pumpkins.

The most time consuming are my sheep and rabbits - oh I'm loving how they are turning out.

My sheep have real sheeps wool that I attached - I just need to add the legs and paint on their eyes.

They started out with just coffee dyed batting as their bodies but I didn't like them
so searching in my stash I found wool roving I have had for years and they look much better.
I made 4 mama's and 4 babies - because of the time consuming steps I won't be making more.

And these fellas were fun too - I had a problem with their ears standing up but finally got smart and added tons of Mod Podge to the aging liquid and walla!  We used cinnamon sticks for the legs.

Look at those fluffy little tails!

Another project I loved doing were the SUGAR CONES
I had a hard time finding the right size vessel to form them until we were grocery shopping
and I saw these perfect 8 oz. plastic tumblers - they turned out great
after some trial and error in the ratio of water to sugars
Took a couple days for them to dry so when they were I sanded off the dried white sugars and softened the edges and tied them up with aged cheesecloth

Just a few things I've made - I need lots of small lamp and candle mats - people like to buy smaller  and less costly items sometimes so I like to make several of them

The Gingerbreads are going to be ornaments, the snowman heads
are for runners and pillows and the cats and sheep will be for runners.

I found this set of mache stacking boxes at a rummage sale last month - they were from 'Lang' and had some really primitive sheep scenes on them but I bought them to cover them in fabric.  They are really small - the largest is 4" tall and the smallest 2". They weren't easy to work with being so small.

On Monday we went to Madison to the wholesale show and we found just a few 'handmade' items.....I can't make EVERYTHING for our show, especially things like these. My talents aren't that creative or maybe I just haven't given myself the chance, regardless, we bought a few items for the show.

This particular one is a bag that hangs on a door or a knob.

We do have a few more items that will arrive in July
sometime that will be in the Christmas line.

Well I guess I have bored you enough today - but being it is storming out I thought this would be a
good day to sit and relax and share some things with you.

The 4th is coming fast and it feels like we hardly had a summer.
The last 2 days were soooo hot here and very humid but those kind of days are rare this season -
if it isn't cold then it's storming.
I'm not a Summer person so the cool days are fine with me...
Be safe with your 4th activities

A bit of show and tell

Things are finally going to get back to normal around here -
I got the pins removed from my finger!
Amazing how not being able to use the full capacity of ones hand
really makes so many things difficult, if not impossible.

But on to better things.
A couple weeks ago I decided to make a traditional early style penny rug for us...
after all these years we do not have one.
I love all the colors in this one and they will be stitched on a wool army blanket.

I laid the pennies in the order I wanted, then had to mark on the backs of each one the number in the spot they would go back on after I stitched the two pennies together.
I am really anxious to start stitching because the colors take on a deeper tone with the stitching - and those few bright gray ones will tone down considerably when stitched.

Last Friday we took a very long day trip to Arcola, IL to some Primitive Antique shows.
Everything in all 4 shows was so beautiful but sooo expensive.
The show we went mainly for was Homesteaders On The Prairie...a wonderful and affordable show plus we always see familiar faces there.
Among the ones we saw was Carolyn Thornton from Black Cat Primitives
 - she is always so upbeat and smiling!

Saw this sweet pillow she made and I thought it would look good on the guest bed -
tie it in with the old quilt at the bottom of the bed

Also found a long paddle I think a long tall snowman punch needle would look nice on.
It isn't old but I loved the shape.

This homespun wool I thought would make a very neat looking sheep on a hooked piece

At one of the shows we saw 3 very nice Penny Rugs.
Would of loved the one on the wall but the price was too out of line.

I love the outline stitching on this one.

Cool Red/White/blue one

A couple weeks ago we went up to Fox & Fork where I consign at
and they had a whole tub of graters and such - love the little hand scrub board.
Going to mount punch needle on these at some point.

I imagine with the new year that started many of you made a resolution to eat healthy.
We did but haven't been too good at following it like we should but now and then
we do and last night I made a delicious stir fry and it's probably
one of the easiest and healthiest dishes you could eat.
Do you find you make enough to feed a whole table of people?
Seems no matter what I make after all these years of just the two of us
I can't seem to cut back on the ingredients and make a ton of it.

Tonight we go over to UW Whitewater for granddaughter Emily's band concert.
We haven't seen her in several weeks and we'll also celebrate her 19th birthday.
We are so proud of Em - she received another scholarship last week and also got a job for the summer at the Kenosha, WI museum for Public History which is her major.

I'll close now - as again I never know when to stop writing 😊

Blessings to you all and thanks for stopping by

AM I MISTAKEN??

Like I said…”Am I mistaken”…Christmas should not be here already should it?

Where has this month gone – the months are just flying by and I haven’t even caught up with last month it seems!

The surgery put me way behind and it’s even worse because I can’t do much for myself…just light duty and only things I can reach and not lift – where does that leave a person….well, laying on the sofa is getting mighty boring.

Except for dr. appointments, I did start getting out last week for some shopping and a few other things.

We went to Janesville for some Christmas shopping – what little bit I could do that is.

So first let me back up here a bit – Christmas shopping!!!
THANK GOODNESS for such wonderful children we have.
Our son’s and daughter in-laws took over shopping. They all went out and bought their children’s gifts for us – they are even wrapping them – I feel so blessed.

That just left stocking stuffers and groceries for us. Not a bad deal huh?

So – back to getting out and doing things finally
 I took it slow though.
While we were in Janesville Doug took me to lunch at Hacienda Real. One of my favorite places to eat and especially because they have the best Chicken Chimichanga’s. They are the closest I’ve had to what Chi-Chi’s had.

We also had a baking day – it went well with Doug mostly doing the rolling and cutting and I manned the oven and taking them off the baking sheets.

Gotta love the wonderful back brace – then combine it with an apron
…new fashion statement!

I guess I really don’t have much else to chat about because I haven’t ‘done much’.
As for our Christmas decorating - Doug did all….did I say I am blessed? Well, I really mean it!

He did a lot more than I thought he would do….I said just the tree was enough but he went a bit further.
I haven’t been taking many pictures lately I guess mainly I haven’t felt like it.
But I did get a few from around the house….
